This class will explore the ethics of touch as pertaining to an oncology client. Additionally, we will explore draping, communication, power differential and more. NC Rules & Regulations and NCBTMB's Code of Ethics will be reviewed. Please read the Refund policy as well as the General Policy below before registering.

Oncology Breast Massage: Lymphedema, Scar Tissue, Myofascial Release

Details: This is a live in person class. Class size limited to 4 students only. Class will start after lunch break from Friday & will continue through Sunday evening.
The student will have the opportunity to communicate, touch, palpate and feel the breast tissue of oncology clients. We will learn about the structure of the breast tissue, different kinds of pressure that can be applied to an oncology client, how to massage in order to minimize lymphedema in the breast tissue and the arms, how to gently palpate and break down scar tissue ( whether recent or old), learn easy and effective myofascial techniques that can be applied to an oncology client even a few days after surgery/treatment.

Policies
Refund Policy: Full payment due 3 weeks before class. Full refund will be given 2 weeks prior to start of class. Refund request must be in writing.
General Policy: Proof of vaccination is required to be presented as this class involves immuno-compromised patients.
*If you know of a breast cancer survivor, please ask them if they would like to be a demo body for the class or a volunteer body for yourself.
Students having experience with oncology massage & manual lymph drainage preferred, but not necessary. This class is not intended to teach lymphatics or oncology massage but build upon the skills learned previously.
Please bring a sheet set with you - fitted sheet, flat sheet & a pillow case.
All days and hours need to be attended in order to receive a certificate.
Please be punctual. A student cannot be more than 5 minutes late for any part of the class. Please allow enough time for travel, lunch, traffic, etc.
Participation in class is expected by all students. All input is welcome.
The class address is about 3.5miles from Carowinds. There are several reasonably priced hotels for overnight stay & restaurants to suit all budgets & dietary preferences.
Dress code for therapists: No low cut or see through tops/blouses. Best to wear crew neck T-shirts. Avoid perfumes/deodorants with noticeable fragrance. Hair, if it's past the shoulders, must be tied back & nails neatly trimmed & filed.
Keeping in mind the sensitive nature of Oncology Breast Massage class, there will be no mixed gender classes. It will be either all female therapists or all male therapists. Male therapists must bring their own model body.
